past performance

When analyzing a company, pundits examine past performance and fundamental assets. On Profile Investment Services’ 20th anniversary, I’d like to focus on both:

The company’s history

In 1997, the Israeli government passed a law that all investment advisors needed to be licensed by the Israeli Securities Authority. Up until that point, I used my American investment licenses to help people who lived in Israel handle their U.S. portfolios. But, to be compliant with the new regulation, I began a crash course in Israeli investment law.

After becoming one of the first people to earn an Israeli investment advisor’s license, I decided to open my own company. One of the biggest decisions I faced was what to name the business. Should I call it, “Douglas Goldstein, Investment Advisors,” or something related to my favorite TV show, Star Trek, “Enterprise Investments”?

Instead, I tried to think about how clients would benefit from my services and based my company’s name on that. Indeed, the first thing that I did when meeting a prospective client was to create a profile of his financial situation.

The company became “Profile Investment Services,” and the phone started ringing with calls from people who received an inheritance, or needed investing advice, or help with their retirement accounts in America. The most important call I got, though, was from a woman who was a former bank manager in Texas. She told me that in order for my company to be successful, I needed to focus on helping clients, and what I really needed was to have her run the office. Two decades later, Sandy Ohana is still the office manager and is loved by all of the clients.

Fundamental assets

Profile’s strongest fundamental asset is its staff. Profile’s team has grown beyond Sandy and me, and while we can’t guarantee investment results, I can guarantee Profile will give you professional, efficient, and caring service. Our team’s dedication is fundamentally our most valuable asset.
